Yoga Sutra 2.05 ugnorance is the conviction of permanence

Sūtra II.5 Ignorance is the conviction of permanence, purity, happiness and self in what are really impermanent, impure, painful and not self (Opponent) But why does the nature of Ignorance have to be described? (Answer) The commentator himself is going to discuss it in the passage beginning ‘Ignorance is the root of the train of taints’, and that is why its nature has to be taught here; unless the root of the train of taints is known, it cannot be uprooted.
